Submit videos for EH Week 2021 Lightning Rounds!

Have you recently completed a dissertation, published a book, or developed a new public history project? Would you like to showcase undergraduate research projects? Share your work with the environmental history community by creating a 2-3 minute video for a featured Lightning Session. Prizes will be given for best videos in special categories for graduate and undergraduate student research projects, new books, and public history projects, as well as open submissions. ·

    • Feel free to include a few images, if they help convey your message and orient your audience. Your video need not be elaborate: a simple “talking head” video can communicate your research clearly and compellingly.
    • For best results: use a microphone and good lighting. Check your sound and lighting by making and watching a test recording.
  • If you want ideas on how to structure your presentation, check out these “how to” recommendations on writing a good “elevator pitch” about your research herehere, and here.

Urban Public Health and the Fight Against Lead Poisoning: Implications for the Age of the Coronavirus

This interdisciplinary roundtable will explore urban and environmental inequalities, specifically the way in which urban built environments create illness in the past and present. Spatial segregation and unequal, discriminatory housing policies have long confined non-white communities to districts with poor housing stock and limited access to public health resources. The roundtable will consider racism, government responses to health threats, and public health activism.

This event was organized in partnership between ASEH and the Urban History Association.

Climate Change, Energy, and Sustainability in the Pacific Region: Knowledge, Policies, and Transfers (1970s – Present)

This interdisciplinary conference seeks to explore the historical development of attitudes towards climate change and environmental degradation within various Pacific Rim countries, as well as interactions between their climate, energy, and environmental policies.

Carceral Environments Roundtable

Inspired by recent calls from environmental historians to center spaces other than “wilderness,” this roundtable brings together interdisciplinary scholarship on environments of incarceration. Beyond bringing carceral and environmental studies into conversation, participants and audience members are invited to discuss the ethical imperatives of such scholarship.

This is a CODIE-organized event.

There is still time to organize events for Environmental History WeekI Here are number of options and resources to help you celebrate environmental history in April. Check out the events already planned.

We look forward to seeing you all soon!
