Earthrise 815: Sustainability Action Conference

Students interested in sustainability, climate action, environmental policy, community planning, energy, and environmental careers are invited to attend Earthrise 815: A Sustainability Action Conference on Friday, November 6, 2026, at the Embassy Suites Conference Center in Rockford, Illinois.

Presented by Sustain Rockford, Earthrise 815 will bring together community members, sustainability professionals, business owners, and local leaders to explore ways to put the Rockford region's Climate Action Plan into practice. The full-day conference will feature 21 breakout sessions, an exhibit hall with local organizations and resources, and a locally sourced, low-waste lunch. Earthrise 815

Bill McKibben, environmentalist, author, and founder of Third Act and 350.org, will deliver the keynote address. Featured speakers include Doug Scott, Chairman of the Illinois Commerce Commission, and author and speaker Mark Charles. Earthrise 815

For Environmental Studies students, this is an opportunity to learn how sustainability and climate planning move from ideas to implementation, hear from professionals working in the field, and connect with organizations and leaders from across the Rockford region.

Attend the 2026 Illinois Innovation Network Conference

NIU students interested in clean energy, sustainable agriculture, biotechnology, community resilience, research, and innovation have an opportunity to attend the 2026 Illinois Innovation Network Conference, with funding available to help cover the trip.

The annual Illinois Innovation Network Conference will take place October 22–23, 2026, at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). The conference brings together students, faculty researchers, program leaders, and business and industry innovators from across Illinois to explore ethical, socially engaged, and sustainable economic growth.

Present Your Work

The conference will include a poster session where students can share their research, meet potential project partners and employers, and connect their academic interests to regional innovation priorities.

Conference organizers are especially interested in projects related to:

  • Clean Energy: Sustainable approaches to energy production

  • Ag Tech: Next-generation agricultural technologies

  • Biotechnology: Advancements in life sciences

  • Social and Economic Innovation: Building resilient communities

Poster abstract deadline: September 21, 2026, at 5 p.m.

Funding Available for NIU Students

NICCS has funding to support up to 12 NIU students attending the conference. Support includes:

  • Transportation from NIU to SIUE

  • Overnight hotel accommodations

  • Meal reimbursement

  • Waived $20 student conference registration fee

The group will depart NIU on the morning of Thursday, October 22, and return at approximately 9 p.m. Friday, October 23.

Priority for funding will be given to students who are:

  1. Presenting a poster at the conference

  2. Interested in areas that align with the conference focus areas

However, all interested students are encouraged to apply.

  • How will attending the IIN Conference support your academic interests and future goals? Please limit your response to 150 words.

  • Do you plan to present a poster? If so, include the title of your poster.

Registration is open for IAEP Student Career Conference (virtual)

 On Saturday, February 7th, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM CST, IAEP will be holding its annual Student Career Seminar. This free online seminar with members of the IAEP Board includes topics, such as How to Network and Interview, The Benefits of Professional Organizations, About Internships and their Value, and How to Build your Resume. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the environmental profession, gain insights into essential skill sets, and connect with practitioners who are committed to supporting early‑career development. Whether you are defining your direction or preparing to launch your career, this session offers a concise and informative introduction to the breadth of opportunities within our field.

Free Online Sustainability Conference

 CUSPERS (Community of University Students for Policy advocacy, Education and Research on Sustainability), known as cuspers.org, is an organization that helps post-secondary student leaders launch sustainability campaigns, connect with others across schools, and build networks. 

On Saturday, Nov 29, cuspers.org is holding the Cuspers Conference: a free online student-focused sustainability conference to connect like-minded students and spread sustainable practices. Our goal is to facilitate networking – bringing together students involved in similar projects and fostering cross-school collaborations. There will be presentations by current and former students involved in sustainability campaigns, and many opportunities for discussion.

Illinois Lakes Management Association 2024 conference Scholarship

 

My name is Quentin Jordan, and I am a member of Illinois Lakes Management Association (ILMA) Board of Directors. I have the honor of being tasked with spreading the word to Universities about of our annual conference to be held at the HOTEL & Illinois Conference Center, 1900 S 1st St, Champaign Illinois on March 4th-6th 2024.

Science-Based Choices for Climate Action, Insights from the IPCC 6th Assessment Report


On October 24 - 26, 2022, all are invited to attend (either in-person or viewing remotely) the International Climate Symposium: Science-Based Choices for Climate Action, Insights from the IPCC 6th Assessment Report hosted by Dickinson College.  Second Nature is proud to be one of the Supporting Organizations.  

The Symposium will provide attendees with an opportunity to engage with authors of the IPCC 6th Assessment Report to discuss its findings, and ways to mobilize and move climate action forward.  

While the event is free, it is requested that you do register to "hold your seat", regardless of if you are attending in-person or will be viewing remotely.

2022 Climate-Tech Policy Boot Camp - open for applications

ITIF’s Center for Clean Energy Innovation is inviting applications for the 2022 Climate-Tech Policy Boot Camp. The boot camp will bring about 20 early career scholars to Washington, DC, for an intensive week of training.

 

Event details:


Researchers with a background in any discipline and working in any institutional setting (academic, government, private etc.) are invited to apply. Applicants should have earned a Ph.D. in 2011 or later; have published research in the open literature on energy and climate innovation policy or management; and be actively pursuing a research program in this field. Female, African-American, and Hispanic researchers are particularly encouraged to apply.

This program is an immersive in-person experience. All participant expenses are covered, including travel, lodging, and food for the week of June 5-10, thanks to generous support from the Sloan Foundation. Application materials and questions may be directed to climatebootcamp@itif.org.

EEAI 2022 Conference - Call for Proposals

The Environmental Education Association of Illinois will be held April 8-9, 2022 at the Hoover Forest Preserve in Yorkville, IL.

 

They hope you consider creating a proposal to present on your projects, collaborations, or techniques and share your successes with other educators from around the state. They would love to highlight your amazing environmental education programs as part of our 2022 EEAI Annual Conference sessions!

 

Proposals are due by November 1, 2021, and can be submitted at eeai.net.

Make a difference: Join Women in Economics

Below is a very interesting event that the Fed is holding on Women in Economics on the evenings of Wednesday Feb 17 and Thursday Feb 18. Attached below is draft of a schedule for the breakout rooms the conference is having as well. Dr. Anna Klis will be speaking in a panel at 7:20 pm on Wednesday on “Making a difference through environmental economics.” She thought that this event and perhaps some of the attached sessions may be of interest to our students in Econ, Business, or even Environmental Studies. Please share this with anyone you think may be interested, as the event is free.
