As our team eagerly anticipates the 2022 growing season, we want to highlight some experiential learning opportunities for current students or recent graduates. 

We are glad to offer internship and apprenticeship opportunities for individuals desiring to learn more about nurturing the earth and nourishing people through farming practices that support the health of soils, plants, ecosystems, humans, and all. EPA hiring soon; webinars for students and alumni

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will be hiring new staff very soon, and seeks to attract talent from across the country and become a more diverse, equal, and inclusive agency. Between January 15^th and February 1^st, 2022, EPA will host nation-wide hiring outreach events for Native and/or Indigenous Students and Recent Graduates; Black and/or African-American Students and Recent Graduates; Latinx and/or Hispanic Students or Recent Graduates; and Asian-American and/or Pacific Islander Students and Recent Graduates.

The topics that will be covered in these webinars include:

• Job opportunities for students and recent graduates
• How to apply to federal positions
• Creating a USAJobs profile and saving searches
• Education and transcript requirements
• Federal pay, benefits, and retirement

• EPA's work toward Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility

Plan Pathways and Entry-Level positions to go live on USAJOBS between the dates of January 15^th and February 3^rd to provide students and alumni with real-time opportunities to apply to jobs for which they are eligible. Human Resource Staffing Specialists are aware of this timeline and are prepared to provide assistance.

Yale Conservation Scholars - Application Deadline January 31st!

We are happy to announce that we are accepting applications for the Yale Conservation Scholars - Early Leadership Initiative! Please pass this announcement on to any students who might be interested. 

 

The priority application date is Monday, January 10th. All applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis after this date until January 31st at 11:59 pm EST.

Led by Dr. Dorceta Taylor, Program Director and Principal Investigator, the Yale Conservation Scholars – Early Leadership Initiative (YCS- ELI) was formerly known as the Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program at University of Michigan/Yale School of the Environment. YCS-ELI is a summer opportunity for undergraduates traditionally underrepresented in the conservation field and who are interested in careers in the sector.

REU applications open for the Hoban lab at The Morton Arboretum

The Morton Arboretum REU program for 2022 is accepting applications!  We have a strong program in plant science, urban ecology, informatics, genomics, ecology, pathology, the anthropocene, conservation biology, population genetics, science communication, evolution, taxonomy, natural history collections, and more.  My team has a focus on genetics, ecological niche, rarity, conservation biology and conservation metrics, hybridization, adaptive and neutral evolution, and simulations.  The program is 10 weeks, pays $6,000, housing and travel are included.  This immersive experience gives students valuable skills and networking opportunities, both within academia and outside academia, and often results in poster presentations and publications.  For example, my 2020 REU student, Kaylee Rosenberger, published a lead author paper a year after finishing, and has presented at 3 conferences, submitted a GRFP application, and has applied to graduate school.

2022 Climate-Tech Policy Boot Camp - open for applications

ITIF’s Center for Clean Energy Innovation is inviting applications for the 2022 Climate-Tech Policy Boot Camp. The boot camp will bring about 20 early career scholars to Washington, DC, for an intensive week of training.

Researchers with a background in any discipline and working in any institutional setting (academic, government, private etc.) are invited to apply. Applicants should have earned a Ph.D. in 2011 or later; have published research in the open literature on energy and climate innovation policy or management; and be actively pursuing a research program in this field. Female, African-American, and Hispanic researchers are particularly encouraged to apply.

This program is an immersive in-person experience. All participant expenses are covered, including travel, lodging, and food for the week of June 5-10, thanks to generous support from the Sloan Foundation. Application materials and questions may be directed to climatebootcamp@itif.org.
