New 9-month Master of Energy Transition at Dartmouth College - accepting applications now, information session January 21

 The new Master of Energy Transition at Dartmouth College is now accepting applications for our first group of graduate students.  A web-based information session is scheduled for January 21 (more information below).

 

The Master of Energy Transition, or MET, is a 9-month, residential, professional degree program taught by Dartmouth faculty and expert practitioners.  The curriculum is highly multidisciplinary and features project-based learning and mentorship from Dartmouth’s broad community of alumni working in energy and climate.  The program is designed for students less than 5 years out from their undergraduate degrees.

 

Please share this announcement with students from any major who are motivated to help lead the transformation of our energy systems and make a difference in climate change.  Priority deadline to apply is January 31, with a final deadline of March 1.

Clean Energy Advocacy Undergraduate Summer Internships at Vermont Law and Graduate School

The Institute for Energy and the Environment at Vermont Law School is again offering 2 summer internships for students in environmental studies and sciences who have at least completed their sophomore year by the start of the internship.  Our Clean Energy Advocacy Internships offer a chance for 2 students interested in future careers in clean energy advocacy to spend the summer with us at our Institute for Energy and the Environment and to work on one of our research or energy clinic teams which are each made up of 3-5 Master of Energy Regulation and Law grad students or JD students specializing in energy law with faculty supervision.  Our teams are currently working on Climate Justice issues ranging from advancing community solar for underserved communities and affordable net zero housing development to other important clean energy transition issues such as sustainable solar siting on agricultural lands with our Farm and Energy Initiative. In the recent years, we have welcomed interns from Washington and Lee University in Virginia,  Tulane University in Louisiana,  Boston College in Massachusetts and Pomona College in California and we are excited to hear from you about why we should select one of your deserving students this year.

 

Clean energy advocacy interns are paid a $1,500 stipend (taxable), can take one of our two-week summer sessions clean energy classes for free (2 graduate credits) and work with our faculty and Masters/JD students on real clean energy projects.  The internship begins May 30^th and ends Thursday, August 3^rd (we have some flexibility in start/stop dates), which is the same as our summer environmental program.  Application materials include a current resume, cover letter explaining the student’s interest in a clean energy advocacy career, and one letter of recommendation from an undergraduate professor (recommendations can follow other materials if necessary). EERE Science, Technology and Policy Opportunity: Second Rolling Application Period Deadline is June 15th

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) Science, Technology and Policy (STP) is currently accepting applications!

 

EERE STP is seeking to develop the future leaders in energy efficiency and renewable energy policy. The EERE STP appointments provide an opportunity for highly talented scientists and engineers to participate in policy-related projects at DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in Washington, DC.

 

The Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO)  drives research, manufacturing, and market solutions to make the abundant solar energy resources in the United States more affordable and accessible for Americans. Applicants selected as a participant will join the SETO team responsible for carrying out activities critical to SETO’s technology mission. SETO applications are reviewed (and offers are made) two times per year with rolling application deadlines of January 15th and June 15th. The application review process takes approximately 3-4 months.

 

Participant Benefits

Selected candidates will receive a stipend as support for their living and other expenses during this appointment. Stipend rates are determined by DOE officials, and are based on the candidate’s academic and professional background. Candidates will also be eligible to receive a health insurance allowance and reimbursement for travel expenses. 

 

Qualifications

Applicants must have superior academic performance and publication record, strong analytical, research and communication (oral and written) skills and demonstrated capacity for creative thinking, a strong technical background and experience in an energy-technology-related field, and be interested in being part of a multi-disciplinary, fast-paced environment, focused on energy technology research and development. Experience and knowledge in technology commercialization is desirable, but not required.

 

Level 3: Doctorate or Master's degree for more than 3 years in an energy-relevant field of science, engineering or other highly quantitative field such as economics. If more than five years since receipt of graduate degree, applicant must have at least three years of post-degree experience in a technical or research position in a field related to energy innovation.

 

Level 2: Ph.D. or master's degree for no more than 3 years in an energy-relevant field of science, engineering or other highly quantitative field such as economics.

 

Level 1: Bachelor's degree for less than five years in an energy-relevant field of science, engineering or other highly quantitative field such as economics.
