Internship: Virtual Compliance Officer Intern
The Compliance Officer Assistant position will assist compliance officers and program officers of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) to carry out meaningful compliance measures according to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and consultation under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA). This position will contribute to the team by assisting LWCF staff in corresponding and communicating with nearly 200 tribes by preparing official invitations to consult and tracking all communications, developing internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for staff to follow when working through the various NEPA regulations, and reviewing and providing guidance to compliance officers for adhering to and tracking all new compliance and post completion compliance projects.

Notes from NPS: This is a virtual internship opportunity for students for the 2023-2024 school year. They will be selecting 2 interns to help the Mid-West NPS LWCF Compliance Program. The interns will be expected to dedicate around 10 hours per week in a virtual capacity working on projects directly benefiting the Mid-West LWCF compliance team. The open application window will be July 3 – 31, interviews and selections will take place in August, and the internship begins September 15 2023 ending May 31 2024.
