These are part time and some seasonal positions in the following areas:

1. Nature Program Facilitators – part time, year round positions teaching nature programs, serving visitors in a nature center setting and assisting with special events.
2. Summer Camp Counselors and Aides – seasonal positions, facilitating nature education in a variety of themed camps for children of various ages
3. Rental/Facility Attendants – part time, year round positions assisting patrons in a nature center and helping rental clients utilizing the nature center for private events

These positions are ideal for students planning careers in environmental science, nature and science education, and retired teachers.

Regional Climate Planning Invitation - NIU MPA students and others welcome

The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus has an event coming up that is somewhat close to DeKalb, and would be of interest to ENVS students. They will be creating a regional climate plan at the below event with the help of input from attendees. During the interactive portion of the event, attendees will break into groups to see which Greenest Region Compact sustainability objectives are the easiest to accomplish, which are the most difficult/how to get past barriers and which require regional collaboration.

Please join the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus Environment Committee and CMAP for an interactive session from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at the Montgomery Village Hall Board Room (200 N. River St., Montgomery) to develop a regional climate action plan. The plan will connect the Chicago area’s Greenest Region Compact (GRC) sustainability collaborative to the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, which encompasses 10,000 cities in 135 countries.

Attendees will provide input on prioritizing sustainability strategies, including which GRC goals are easiest to accomplish, which are more difficult and how to overcome barriers, and which goals require regional collaboration. Participants will be able to bring back ideas to their municipality on which sustainability actions are the easiest to complete.

IAFSM YP Group - 2020 Conference Student Scholarship

The Illinois Association for Floodplain and Stormwater Management (IAFSM) Young Professionals Group (YPG) is offering three conference scholarships to Junior, Senior, or Graduate students interested in stormwater and floodplain management to attend the 2020 IAFSM annual conference. The awarded scholarship will waive the cost of the full 2-day registration. In order to receive a scholarship, the student must be undertaking a degree program related to stormwater or floodplain management. The YPG is looking for students interested in stormwater and floodplain management to continue their professional growth as they move towards graduation. We encourage all students interested in attending the conference and who meet the criteria above to apply for this conference scholarship.
