Exciting NIU Career Services Updates for Fall 2025

 NEW this fall – Career Success Clinic: On Tuesday, Sept. 16, we are launching our first-ever Career Success Clinic! Employers and alumni will be on campus to review resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and cover letters while offering real-time advice. This is a fantastic way for students to prepare for the semester ahead. What’s New & Important for Fall 2025:

• Advising Appointments in Huskies Get Hired (Symplicity): All student appointments are now scheduled in Huskies Get Hired, where they can also explore career fairs, internships, and job postings. Helping students get comfortable with this system will set them up for success. (Advisors, please see helpful PDF attached).

• Resume Reviews through Drop-In Services: Students can now meet one-on-one with a Career Peer Coach at our new Student Hub. They’ll also gain hands-on experience with Quinncia, our new AI-powered career readiness platform offering personalized feedback on resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and interview skills. We are thrilled to bring this innovative tool to campus!

• Huskie Career Launchpad (Digital Badging): Students can build and showcase their skills through digital badges that highlight their career readiness. These badges can be added to LinkedIn and shared with future employers, a powerful way for Huskies to stand out in a competitive job market.

• Forage Virtual Job Simulations: Forage offers free, online simulations designed by leading employers. Students can explore career paths, build real-world skills, and strengthen their resumes, all at their own pace. It’s an excellent way to bring classroom learning to life.

Career Services - April 30th End-of-Year Career Fair

 This fair is open to all majors and class levels (undergraduates, graduate students, alumni, and community members); 72 employers are registered to participate. Students can see the list of employers attending through this link and additional details through their Huskies Get Hired account.

Résumé support and elevator pitch practice provided by Braven will be available on the day of the fair (April 30th) from 11:30am to 3:00pm in the Holmes Student Center, Regency Room.

Career Services' End-of-Year Career Fair - May 3rd

Please help us share information about Career Services’ End-of-Year Career Fair on May 3^rd from 1-4:00pm in the Holmes Student Center, Duke Ellington Ballroom. All majors are welcome. There are 60 employers registered to participate, and they are recruiting for internships and full-time, part-time and student employment positions. Attached are marketing materials, including digital files and a file to print 8.5x11 flyers.

 

Instruction for students to research employers participating:

 

· Log in to your Huskies Get Hired (Symplicity) account

· Click on Events in the top row.

· Click on the name of the event you are attending.

· Click on the Employer tab (below the name of the event) and search and filter to find employers of interest. To get the best results, select “More Filters” instead of “Keyword” to search by your major.

 

Drop-in resume review services are available at Career Services in the Peters Campus Life Building Room 220. No appointment is necessary. Students should bring a printed copy of their resume during these times:

Illinois Tech Food Career Fair 2023

 

Career Services: End-of-Year Career Fair - May 6th - Virtual

Please help Career Services spread the word to students about the End-of-Year Career Fair being held virtually on May 6^th from 11am to 2pm. There are over 100 employers registered to participate, and this will be the last career fair for the 2021-2022 academic year. All majors and class levels are welcome to participate. Employers are seeking to fill internships as well as part-time and full-time jobs.

 

Students and alumni can research the employers participating through their Huskies Get Hired account:

 

• Preferred Browsers: Chrome and Edge.
• Log in to your Huskies Get Hired (Symplicity) account and click on Student/Alumni.
• Trouble logging in? Click Forgot Password.
• Trouble connecting to Symplicity? Copy and paste the URL, https://niu-csm.symplicity.com, into your browser.
• Navigate to Events > Career Fairs > Name of Event Attending.
• Go to the Employer tab and search and filter to find employers of interest:
  Keyword Search:  Searches in the Employer Name Field and the Overview Field
  Search by “More Filters”: Searches by whatever field(s) is specifically selected. “Job Titles Recruited at this Fair” and “Major” yield the best results. Once a filter is selected to search on, you’ll need to page down a bit to the “Apply” tab. Make sure that any other filters have been cleared (including keyword) before clicking on “Apply”.

US Army Corps of Engineers Career Fair

On April 13^th 2022, the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is hosting a virtual career fair event via Yello. Candidates can register for time slots to participate in informational sessions and learn more about a rewarding career with USACE.

NIU Law Diversity Open House on December 5, 12-1:30 PM

The College of Law is hosting an open house for diverse students on Saturday, December 5, from 12-1:30 pm.  This virtual program will include a brief presentation on the NIU College of Law; remarks from one of our most distinguished alums, The Honorable Vincent F. Cornelius (’89); a student panel with Q&A; as well as an opportunity for students to play a game and win a prize. Registration is open for all students.

 

Attached is a flyer about the open house.  Again, they are targeting diverse students with this open house, but it is open to all interested students.

Virtual Graduate and Professional School Fair - Tuesday, October 27 at 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM

Sharing information on the upcoming Graduate and Professional School Fair (GPSF). The GPSF will be held virtually in the Huskies Get Hired system.  Students will be able to have individual video chats with school/program representatives.  Students can ask the representative about admissions standards, program details, financial aid, advice on their applications, and anything else they would like to know to make themselves a strong candidate and if the program is a good fit for them.  We have some guidance for research on our Graduate School Planning pages - www.niu.edu/CareerServices/career-resources/graduate-school-planning.shtml

VIRTUAL JOB FAIR: The USDA Forest Service Eastern Region Centralized Temporary Hiring (CTH) team will host a virtual job fair on Tuesday, October 20 using Microsoft Teams. 1.     Preferred Browsers:  Chrome and Edge

Log into your Huskies Get Hired (Symplicity) account at https://niu-csm.symplicity.com and click Student/Alumni

Trouble logging in:  Click Forgot Password 

Trouble connecting to Symplicity:  Copy and paste the URL, https://niu-csm.symplicity.com, into your browser.

2.     Navigate to Events | Career Fairs | Name of Fair you are Attending | Attend

3.     Upload your resume, if you have not already done so. This is the only way to pass a resume to an employer during the fair.

4.     Set your Status to Online

5.     Go to the Employer tab and search and filter to find employers of interest.

6.     To join a 1-on-1 chat click on Join Queue. The employer you are waiting for will show up under Upcoming Chats along with estimated wait times.

7.     When it’s your turn to video chat with an employer, you will see an alert pop up on the screen. Click on the alert to see instructions on how to video chat with the employer.

8.     When you are done with your video chat, click End Chat, and you can write notes and use it for follow up after the fair.

9.     When joining a chat, instead of downloading Teams, Zoom, GoToMeeting, etc., select the option to join the meeting online and it will be faster to join. 

10.  You can stand in three queues at one time.

11.  You can also join group video chats by clicking on Group Chat. If you are in a group video chat, campus resources can still contact you for 1-on-1 video chats.

12.  If you need to step away for a short break, set your Status to Busy. 

13.  If you need to leave the fair, set your Status to Offline. You will be removed from any queues that you are currently in.

14.  When the fair is over, you can access your notes, the representative’s name and email, and use this information for thank you notes or other follow up.
