Huskie Academic Support Center Supplemental Instruction Program

The new Huskie Academic Support Center (HASC), Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program is hiring!  If you have a desire to sharpen your skills, to help your peers, and to earn some extra money while working remotely then becoming an SI Leader (SIL) is the opportunity for you.  We are seeking all majors to join our team.

 

What is SI?

  • We are an interactive alternative to traditional tutoring.  SI sessions are designed to help students become independent learners, to increase both academic and social skills of SI participants.  Research suggests that participating in weekly SI sessions that students will earn a higher grade than non-SI participants.
  • All HASC SI support is FREE to NIU students.
  • SI weekly sessions are peer-led group-based and content-based academic support offered to any student enrolled in a course where SI exist.
  • SI Office Hours offers an opportunity for students to receive SI support in a 100 or 200 level where SI does not exist in a course.

Here is what you need:

  • A 2.5 or higher GPA, preference given to students with a 2.75 and up
  • Have successfully earned a B or better in hired course
  • Availability to work 7-10 hours weekly (you may be assigned an SI course or may not)
  • Starting rate:  $11/hour
  • Submit application materials
