Position: Research Assistant, Part-Time

Why the role exists
Biolumic is seeking a motivated individual looking to further their experience in greenhouse and field-based plant biotechnology research. BioLumic UV technology delivers ultraviolet light to seeds and seedlings to trigger biological mechanisms that increase plant growth, vigor and yields. Our world-first technology is clean, green and GM free. At our site in Champaign, Biolumic is researching row crops for increased sustainability and yield. Trials are conducted in the University Greenhouses as well as across the Midwest in field trials. To further develop our technology, we are hiring a person that can help achieve our research goals.
What you do
- Greenhouse: plant measurements, plant care, maintain greenhouse growing environment, prepare growing media and containers
- Field: Plant data collection, plant physiology measurements
- Facility: Plant tissue measurements, data entry, seed activities
What you bring to the role
Preferred Experience and skills
- Familiarity with agricultural crops
- Familiarity with greenhouse and/or field trials
- Data collection
- Attention to detail and accurate work
- Honest communication
Preferred Qualifications:
- Enrolled at the University of Illinois or Parkland College or local to Champaign Urbana
- Interest in plant or life science
- Possibility of additional hours during the summer
- Ability to work in greenhouse and field environments
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
