NOAA is hiring Supervisory Social Scientists and Supervisory Economists

The Social Sciences Branch at the Northeast Fisheries Science Center is delighted to share that it is recruiting for Supervisory Social Scientists and Supervisory Economists. NOAA's Northeast Fisheries Science Center is recruiting Supervisory Social Scientists and Supervisory Economists for its Social Sciences Branch, which is one of the preeminent groups of marine resource economists and social scientists in the US. Branch staff conduct cutting edge research and provide expert resource management support for commercial and recreational fisheries in the New England and Mid-Atlantic, as well as for ecosystem based management, wind energy development, and protected resources. The possible Duty Stations are Woods Hole, Massachusetts or Narragansett, Rhode Island. The position is a ZP-4 position in the CAPS System, equivalent to the GS-13/14 level. We are especially interested in candidates with experience and interests in the following areas: offshore wind development, ecosystem based management, climate change, and recreational fishing.

 

The duties of a Supervisory Social Scientist or Supervisory Economist will include:

  • Help to set the direction and goals of economics and social science team, incorporating strategic goals considering stakeholders' needs, available resources, and gaps in literature.
  • Design and implement studies to address information needs, analyze data and information, and develop materials (reports, journal articles, presentations, brochures, etc.) to convey findings.
  • Provide guidance in economics and/or social science methods, products, and information to stakeholders and/or members of marine resource-related scientific and management disciplines (e.g., biologists, fishery managers, natural resource specialists, etc.).
  • Provide technical and administrative supervision over a subordinate staff.
