ACCESS PAL tutoring

To add to our tutoring staff for ACCESS Peer Assisted Learning (PAL), I am looking for qualified students to hire as tutors for Spring 2019. All PAL tutors participate in training, as is required for PAL’s accreditation by the College Reading & Learning Association.

PAL tutoring services positively impact retention and cumulative GPA. Students who attended more than one hour of PAL tutoring in spring 2019:
  • 80%+ re-enrolled for fall by the end of May 2019
  • 36% earned a grade in the course tutored that increased their GPA
  • 16% earned an A in the course tutored
  • 34% earned a B in the course tutored
  • 26% earned a C in the course tutored

Please consider:

  • If you know of any student who has a comprehensive knowledge of a particular discipline (must have earned a grade of A or B in the course), communicates well, and is reliable, please let me know, or encourage them to apply to be a PAL tutor.
  • If you could announce the PAL hiring campaign to your classes, that would be great! The application and pertinent information is online at https://www.niu.edu/access/about/employment.shtml.
  • Feel free to forward this e-message to others if you think it could be helpful.

Please contact me with any questions. I appreciate your cooperation and thank you for your assistance in support of NIU student success.

With regard,
Lynn
