Position Summary
Under general direction, the Energy and Sustainability Analyst leads energy conservation initiatives for the University and is required to assess, formulate, and evaluate the impact of recommended or implemented policies from a strategic and operational perspective. Work requires regular participation in planning and development activities and, as required, independent determination of methods to meet programmatic or administrative goals. The Energy and Sustainability Analyst serves as the primary contact for the energy conservation program, and is the key technical advisor on energy related issues to management. The energy analyst also leads student and faculty energy and sustainability projects that impact the physical campus.
Minimum Qualifications
Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program
field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation
would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
Required Qualifications
1. Ability to make independent decisions and exercise sound judgment and discretion.
2. Working knowledge of operational and fiscal analysis and techniques.
3. Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures.
4. Ability to take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.
5. Ability to train others on new skills and procedures and provide lead work direction.
6. Ability to interpret and integrate complex data and information to formulate appropriate courses of action, which could have a broad and far-reaching impact.
7. Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply extensive expertise to sustainability and energy conservation programs and administrative specialties, including codes and regulations such as AB32, and the CSU Sustainability Policy.
8. Expertise in administrative survey techniques, operations and systems analysis, statistical and research methods, and the ability to interpret and evaluate results to develop sound conclusions and recommend new or revised policies.
9. Experience in developing greenhouse gas reduction, energy conservation and renewable energy projects and project management.
10. Ability to understand energy conservation and sustainability related problems from a broad, interactive perspective and discern applicable underlying principles to conceive of and develop strategic solutions.
11. Ability to work with representatives from public and private entities and handle potentially sensitive situations. Demonstrate consultative skills in working with internal and external constituent groups.
12. Ability to apply advanced theories, principles, methods and practices as it relates to new technologies.
13. Ability to effectively communicate and present ideas and concepts, and to use expertise, in written or presentation format and use consultative and facilitation skills, as well as persuasion and negotiation skills to gain consensus.
Preferred Qualifications
14. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Biology, Environmental Studies, Business, or related field
15. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP) or Green Associate
16. Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
