Celebrate the beginning of the transition to renewable energy with a Display of Electric Vehicles, music by Dave Kolars, and speakers. This free event will be held Monday, June 25 from 4:00 to 6:15 at Hallgren Park in DeKalb. The Display of Electric Vehicles will include Electric Bicycles, a Chevy Bolt, a Nissan Leaf, an Electric Motorcycle, and a lithium battery powered commercial Riding Lawnmower.
This event demonstrates how the combined strength and imagination of local leaders, the success and growth of the market economy, and governmental polices will make the needed transition from fossil fuels to renewable fuels.
Our Speakers will be local leaders in politics, business, and social action. DeKalb Mayor Jerry Smith will welcome us at 4:30 with a statement about renewable energy sources. Andre Williams will speak on the transition to renewable energy that is necessitated by climate change. Mike Paul from North Central Cyclery in DeKalb will introduce us to electric bicycles. Nancy Proesel will advocate for keeping social justice front and center reminding us how too often communities least able to adjust lose the most and suffer the most when any change occurs. Sara Dady will discuss what our Federal Legislators should do to further the transition.
Musician Dave Kolars will be performing at the beginning from 4:00 PM to 4:30 and at the end (6:00 to 6:15) of this Celebration. People should feel free to bring a chair or blanket and to contact us if they have questions at 350Kishwaukee@gmail.com
Hallgren Park is located at 701 Franklin Street. This event will be held between the Gazebo and Franklin Street. It is organized by 350Kishwaukee, a group of people residing in the Kishwaukee River Watershed who provide education and advocacy on renewable energy.
In case of rain the event will be cancelled and rescheduled for July 9, 2018 at 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
