Southern Sierra Critical Zone Observatory

The Staff Research Associate is responsible for supporting education and outreach, assisting with project management and reporting and facilitating project communication on the Southern Sierra Critical Zone Observatory (CZO). The education and outreach program will involve attracting new researchers to the CZO, maintaining the website (including ensuring data accessibility), and supporting stakeholder outreach and K-16 education activities. The Staff Research Associate will work with the CZO principal investigators to prepare reports, coordinate communications among scientists, interface with USDA Forest Service Staff and other partners, and plan meetings. This position will also work with scientists to write outreach proposals and to develop outreach talks and materials based on research findings. This is an opportunity to do research depending on the interests of the applicant. 
Critical Zone Observatories are a National Science Foundation network of state-of-the art research sites (http://criticalzone.org/national/). Each CZO involves multiple scientists who address cutting edge research questions in areas of hydrology, ecosystem ecology, soil science, geology and climatology. The Sierra CZO focuses particularly on questions related to how land management, climate, fire and other processes influence water resources and other ecosystem services (http://criticalzone.org/sierra/). Communication of results to a broad range of stakeholders - land managers, the public as well as other scientists is a core part of the Sierra CZO mission.
The position is located at UC Merced in Merced, CA.
