Career Services Events for Fall 2017

CAREER FAIR PREP WORKSHOP
Tuesday, October 10, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Holmes Student Center, Capitol Room
This preparation workshop is designed to help students make the most of the Internship and Job Fair by providing strategies for connecting with employers and making the best possible first impression with employers seeking to hire Huskies! Career Services’ professionals and employers will assist students with putting the final touches on their elevator pitches and share strategies on how to find, research, prepare and interview for internship and job opportunities.
 
INTERNSHIP AND JOB FAIR
Wednesday, October 18, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., NIU Convocation Center.
The Internship and Job Fair will have over 210 employers looking to hire NIU talent! A list of participating employers can be viewed at careerfairs.niu.edu. Admission and parking is free for this event. Huskie Bus routes 2R and 2L are also available. Dress professionally and bring several copies of your resume.

INTERNSHIP AND JOB FAIR SUCCESS TIPS
Research the companies. Rehearse elevator speeches. Dress professionally. Bring plenty of resumes. Perfect your interview skills. Use NIU’s job search system – Huskies Get Hired – where employers find new talent for jobs and internships, and where NIU students can create, upload and publish their resumes.
 
Students can visit our Career Peer Mentors in the Career Resource Center, Monday-Friday from 10 am to 3 pm in CLB 235, for resume review assistance. The Career Resource Center is not open on the day of the Internship & Job Fair.

Summer 2018 Agriculture and Communication Internship

IT/STEM Recruiting Fair

This Wednesday, September 20, 2017 from 4:30PM to 7:30PM in the Barsema Alumni and Visitors Center Atrium, we will host our second annual IT/STEM Fair.
 
This year the IT/STEM Recruiting Fair will provide a “meet the firm” style event specific to IT/STEM Fields. Students will have the chance to connect one-on-one with employers about IT and STEM-related industries/careers.
 
Parking is available in the lot immediately west of the Visitors Center, and students are asked to enter the building from the west end.
 
Students should plan to dress professionally and bring multiple copies of their resume.
 
Light refreshments will be available.
 
Companies confirmed to attend are: CME Group, Discover Financial Services, Ensono, The Pizzo Group, and Starcom Worldwide.

Nachusa Grasslands Ecosystem Restoration Scientist Job

We are excited to announce that The Nature Conservancy is hiring a Nachusa Grasslands Ecosystem Restoration Scientist.   This Scientist will be our on-site lead for providing technical and scientific support for habitat management and restoration at Nachusa Grasslands.

2018 Nachusa Grasslands Science Research Grants


Friends of Nachusa Grasslands is a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity founded by volunteers and dedicated to supporting the Nachusa Grasslands Preserve of The Nature Conservancy near Franklin Grove, Illinois.  To encourage science and education at Nachusa Grasslands, the Friends award monetary grants to qualified candidates conducting scientific research at the preserve.
 
Research projects should focus primarily on prairie, savanna, wetland, woodland, and stream habitat management such as prescribed fire, seed collection, weed control, general or specific flora or faunal populations, and natural areas restoration.  Research projects supported by the Friends in past years are listed at the Friends website: www.nachusagrasslands.org.
 
Academic scholars, university or college graduate students enrolled in pertinent programs of study, and independent researchers who are conducting or planning to conduct research at Nachusa Grasslands may apply for the grants.
 
The minimum 2018 individual grant is $500.  The maximum amount budgeted for all 2018 grants combined is $40,000.  
 
The deadline for applications is 5:00 pm, November 30, 2017.  Announcement of grant recipients will take place no later than February 1, 2018.  Grants must be used between February 1, 2018 and June 30, 2019.
