Dave Ewert, Director of Conservation Science in The Great Lakes at The Nature Conservancy.  Dave works on climate change and conservation issues in the Great Lakes Region, generally and has also done research on the ecology of migrating and overwintering neotrpical migratory landbirds.  His seminar will be titled "The Nature Conservancy:  Great Lakes Regional Science".

The Journal of Student Research is calling for submissions for its next issue scheduled to be published end of this year. This is a multidisciplinary journal affiliated with the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR). 

Student researchers at NIU who are aspiring to publish can submit the following:

• Manuscript that is student's original research.

• Original review or analysis on a topic of student's choice.

• Other types of submissions.

Please review the Author Guidelines (http://www.jofsr.com/index.php/path/pages/view/authors) which will answer most of your questions about the submission process.

To submit the manuscript student's will first have to Register (http://www.jofsr.com/index.php/path/user/register) with the journal as an Author.

Deadline to submit: 11:59 p.m. (CST) October 31, 2012

  Student Resources - WATERCON2013

What:         Water Industry Career Fair When:       Tuesday, March 19th, 2013, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm Where:      WATERCON2013,  Crowne Plaza Hotel, Springfield, IL Cost:         The career fair is free of charge

WATERCON2013 is where water professionals from all over the state gather to present the latest research and technologies for improving water quality, wastewater treatment, and public health. New this year,  we will host a career fair at WATERCON 2013 for undergraduate students, graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and certification program trainees. This event will provide job placement, networking, and mentoring opportunities for students pursuing fields of study related to the water industry, such as chemistry, biology, civil and environmental engineering, environmental science and policy, public health, water system operations, and utility management.

NO CHARGE - There is no charge for students to attend the 2 hour career fair.   If you would like to stay for the entire day, and experience the technical sessions, exhibit hall and social events, you can submit a poster for the poster session and gain free registration with your poster submission.  Also if you would like to simply register for the day, that is an option below.  Poster session begins at 9am and judging will be at 11am, also on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. If  you are a full time student and involved extensively in water or wastewater topics and are unable to present a poster and need assistance to attend WATERCON,  email laurie@isawwa.org for further assistance and details.

The Journal of Science Policy and Governance will be accepting submissions relating to emerging topics and issues in science policy in early January, 2013. The Journal invites young scholars interested in publishing new ideas and research for policy-makers, planners, and managers in a variety of fields. The Journal of Science Policy and Governance is an interdisciplinary journal that seeks high-quality submissions on emerging or continuing policy debates. Current students (undergraduate or graduate) and recent graduates within three years of earning a degree (bachelors, masters, or doctoral) are eligible to submit. The Journal strives to publish articles in a timely manner to ensure that publications can be considered in the context of current policy debates. The Journal seeks to publish on a wide range of topics in a variety of ways. Below are the types of articles that can be submitted and their guidelines.

Policy Memos Maximum of four pages or 2000 words One paragraph executive summary Must be directed to an individual or organization

Policy Analyses Maximum of 30 pages Must include a one page executive summary Must include policy recommendations

Technology Assessments Maximum of 35 pages Must include a one page executive summary Must examine the policy and governance implications of technology in question May include policy recommendations

Op-Ed Maximum of 1000 words Must include policy or governance implications
