Position Summary
Indiana University Bloomington seeks to hire a postdoctoral research fellow to study community food systems and sustainable food system development in international sites as part of a large interdisciplinary research team focused on sustainable food systems science.

The researcher will work with a team of highly motivated faculty, research scientists, postdocs, and graduate students to study sustainable food system development and evolution, conducting community food system research for the longitudinal study of food system change. Research will focus on three main areas: production, aggregation/distribution, and consumption/access. The researcher will help lead qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, develop and deliver manuscripts and presentations, engage in community outreach, and co-write external grant proposals. The researcher will not be expected to teach.

This is a one-year position with a start date of 8/1/19. The appointment may be renewed for two additional years contingent upon programmatic need, available funding and the candidate’s satisfactory progress.

Qualifications
A Ph.D. in geography, anthropology, sociology, or other social science field and skills in both quantitative and qualitative research methods are required.

Area of expertise is open, but we are particularly interested in researchers working in the Global South. Ideal candidate would have experience with social-ecological systems analytical frameworks.

Position Summary
Indiana University seeks to hire an Assistant Research Scientist to study community food systems and sustainable food system development and help guide a large interdisciplinary research team in this exciting new, emerging area of research. This is a non-tenure track, faculty position within the Ostrom Workshop at Indiana University-Bloomington.

The Research Scientist will work with a team of highly motivated faculty, research scientists, postdocs, and graduate students to study sustainable food system development and evolution, conducting community food system assessment for longitudinal study of food system change. Research will focus on three main areas and the feedbacks among them: production, aggregation/distribution, and consumption/access. The Assistant Scientist will help lead qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, data management, develop and deliver manuscripts and presentations, engage in community outreach, lead external grant proposals, and provide leadership for dissemination of project work and activities. The person hired for this position will help coordinate cross-pollination between multiple, international case study sites and develop/facilitate strategies for synthesis of research across sectors and cases. The assistant research scientist will also engage in supervisory responsibilities for project researchers.

This is a three-year position which may be extended dependent upon securing additional external funding and satisfactory performance. Applications received by October 30, 2018 will receive priority consideration.

Qualifications
A Ph.D. in food systems, anthropology, sociology, geography, or other social science field, U. S. food systems and farming research experience, and skills in both quantitative and qualitative research methods are required. Northern Illinois University Department of Anthropology anticipates hiring a tenure-track Assistant Professor with expertise in environmental archaeology starting August, 2019.  Candidates in all areas of environmental archaeology are encouraged to apply. However, candidates are encouraged to link with one or more of NIU's interdisciplinary Centers and Institutes.



The candidate is expected to be engaged in active field work, to maintain a strong externally funded research program, and to supervise undergraduate and graduate student research in the field.  Research interests that complement existing department strengths are particularly welcome. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising graduate students, and teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses including introductory courses in archaeology, as well as upper level courses in their area of expertise.  Teaching responsibilities normally include four courses per academic year, though only two in the first year. The Anthropology Department is a four field department with an MA graduate degree program. Required skills include: Ph.D. in anthropology at the time of hire, evidence of scholarly productivity commensurate with experience, potential to establish and maintain an independent program of research, and evidence of quality teaching experience/potential. Preferred skills include: Northern Illinois University values candidates who have experience working in settings with students from diverse cultural backgrounds, and who possess a commitment to improving their access to higher education and achievement. Sustainability Program Manager Job Opening

The Sustainability Program Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive city-wide sustainability program.  This position collaborates with City departments and public and private agencies to promote environmental best practices and serves as a resource to elected officials, City management and community groups to develop and maintain an environmentally sustainable community.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent from  an accredited college or university in environmental science, environmental studies, urban planning, public policy/administration, resource economics, or related field and  two to five years experience related to environmental sciences/sustainability and/or program/project management or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  Prefer graduate degree in a related field.

Practical experience with sustainability projects desired. Familiarity with LEED and other residential and commercial ratings systems preferred. Certification as a LEED Accredited Professional desired but not required.  Life cycle costing experience considered a plus. Grantwriting and knowledge of fund procurement mechanisms valuable.

FOOD STUDIES PROGRAM, STUDYING AND INTERNING IN ITALY SPRING 2019


The Spring 2019 study abroad program ‘FOOD CULTURE AND FOOD MEDIA IN ITALY’ is now accepting applications! 
DURATION: Spring Full Immersion Program
WHEN: Friday, January 18 – Saturday, May 11, 2019. Note: Students who opt for the month-long academic internship program add-on will end their program on June 8, 2019.
WHERE: ROME, ITALY 
Description
Based in the heart of historic Rome — only minutes from the Vatican, the Colosseum, and the Pantheon — this four-month full-immersion program introduces participants to the on-site exploration of the interdisciplinary field of food studies. While staying in nearby apartments, students can take up to five academic courses taught by local professors holding a PhD, Professionals in the field as well as professional instructors. In addition, students have the option of adding on a month-long academic internship. The courses are complemented by regular excursions into Rome or other areas of Italy. Students are encouraged to keep journals and to engage in ethnographic research projects. This study program will assist students in identifying and analyzing major components of food culture, cooking, sociology, history, and architecture in Italy.

Galapagos Field Course - Application Deadline is Sept 17!

We are excited to announce that we’ll be offering the international field course, Tropical Biology in the Galapagos, during the USM Winter Intersession.  The course will take place in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands on January 2-13, 2019.  The majority of the class will be spent island hopping throughout the archipelago, including stays on San Cristobal, Santa Cruz, and Isabela islands.  Please consider passing this information along to any students who may be interested in this opportunity.  Full details about the course are available at the USM Study Abroad website
