Morton Arboretum Research

The Morton Arboretum has an REU-style fellowship program, and I'm recruiting a student to assess the influence of trees on soil biogeochemistry.

The overarching questions are: 1) What are the effects of roots vs. leaves on soil biogeochemistry? and 2) Do more closely related trees have similar effects? This will be evaluated using the unique resources of the Morton Arboretum by connecting leaf and root properties with soil properties across historic single-species "Forestry Plots.”

There are other projects on tree evolutionary dynamics, arboriculture and urban forestry, and ecosystem modeling.

Applications are due Feb 23.
