Job Title:Physical Scientist (Environmental) (RECENT GRADUATES)

This position is located in Region 5, Great Lakes National Program Office, Technical Assistance & Analysis Branch in Chicago, IL.
At the entry level of this position, you will:

- Serve as the Project Officer (PO) and provide management for one or more of the contracts. Provide technical guidance to project managers in reviewing work plans and budget, and assist them in resolving complex environmental science issues.

- Review and analyze environmental and scientific data and information, including the work needed for assessment, feasibility, and design for remediation of contaminated sediments at assigned Great Lakes Legacy Act (GLLA) sites.

- Provide a scientific, technical and analytical review of GLLA Project Managers statements of work required to be performed by engineering/design and remediation contractors. Develops the contractual strategy to be used in the procurement of specific scientific engineering/design and remediation services.

- Develop and maintain a database or tracking system to ensure effective utilization of contract dollars and hours. Formulate and implement a management plan for contracts, which includes all aspects of program management.

**YOU MUST MEET ALL RECENT GRADUATES PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS BY THE CLOSING DATE**
To qualify for the GS-07 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-5 level defined as assessing the impact of emissions on ambient air quality OR 1 full year of graduate level education; OR superior academic achievement degree in the academic discipline as described below.

To qualify for the GS-09 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-7 level defined as applying environmental control technology methods to analyze air quality samples OR master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline

Recent Graduates who have completed all course requirements for a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution or technical education program within the preceding two years. Preference eligible veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree due to military service obligation may apply up to six years after degree or certification
