Summer EHS Intern with a large Environmental component, (Ottowa, IL)

US Silica (Ottawa)

  • The EHS Intern reports directly to the Regional Environmental Manager, but also works with the Director of EHS, Plant Manager, and local Ottawa operations team. The position is given responsibilities that will assist your learning and experience in the mining industry, while following corporate and government regulations and guidelines.
  • The team member will assist in safety walkthroughs and audits, developing and presenting EHS trainings, and participate in analyses of workplace incidents. They will get to learn facility Environmental & Safety aspects (Policy, Operation Permits, Programs & Procedures), shadow Supervisors and Operators to learn plant operations and equipment, and learn environmental differences in the Midwest Region (Illinois, Michigan, Tennessee, and Wisconsin). The EHS Intern will also provide key support on various projects within the Corporate EHS team. Regular projects and deliverables are expected, and the internship is concluded with a capstone project with professional presentation.
  • This position works approximately 60 percent of the time out in the plant environment with supervision, which consists of temperature extremes, wet weather conditions, and in respirator required areas.
  • The EHS Intern will work closely with all levels of the plant and corporate organizations and will need to work before internal and external groups. This position requires some travel and a flexible work schedule.
