2018 Nachusa Grasslands Science Research Grants


Friends of Nachusa Grasslands is a nonprofit, tax-exempt entity founded by volunteers and dedicated to supporting the Nachusa Grasslands Preserve of The Nature Conservancy near Franklin Grove, Illinois.  To encourage science and education at Nachusa Grasslands, the Friends award monetary grants to qualified candidates conducting scientific research at the preserve.
 
Research projects should focus primarily on prairie, savanna, wetland, woodland, and stream habitat management such as prescribed fire, seed collection, weed control, general or specific flora or faunal populations, and natural areas restoration.  Research projects supported by the Friends in past years are listed at the Friends website: www.nachusagrasslands.org.
 
Academic scholars, university or college graduate students enrolled in pertinent programs of study, and independent researchers who are conducting or planning to conduct research at Nachusa Grasslands may apply for the grants.
 
The minimum 2018 individual grant is $500.  The maximum amount budgeted for all 2018 grants combined is $40,000.  
 
The deadline for applications is 5:00 pm, November 30, 2017.  Announcement of grant recipients will take place no later than February 1, 2018.  Grants must be used between February 1, 2018 and June 30, 2019.
