What to expect

The BP STEP (Shaping Talent, Energy and Potential) program provides a unique opportunity to gain real-world skills in leadership before graduation. You’ll also gain valuable insight into the energy industry.

During the program you’ll:
  • Network with BP executives, employees and current interns.
  • Engage in leadership workshops.
  • Hear from inspiring speakers.
  • Meet like-minded students from across the country.
  • Receive a $500 scholarship and an all-expenses paid trip to one of BP’s key locations.

Eligibility criteria

To qualify for this program you will be a first or second year undergraduate student, majoring in engineering, science or business.
And you’ll need to have the qualifying 3.2 GPA.
We’re looking for students who demonstrate high potential, have strong academic and extracurricular backgrounds and who have a well-articulated interest in BP and our industry.


Sophmore experience

Integrated supply and trading (IST) is the commercial face for BP. Its role is to provide commodity trading, risk management and information technology skills for the business.

What to expect

This exciting, all expenses paid, week-long program delivers a unique opportunity for you to learn about life in BP trading.
During the program you’ll be exposed to our corporate culture and values.
Experience is gained through a mix of:
  • Presentations
  • Hands-on trading demonstrations
  • Case studies
  • Networking and evening events around Chicago

Eligibility criteria

This program is open to current sophomore students who will be rising juniors, with a strong interest in business and trading.
There are no degree requirements however you’ll need a minimum 3.2 GPA.

BP Scholars program

BP knows you’re the future of the energy industry. That’s why we’re looking for high-achieving candidates to join our scholarship programme.

If you want to pursue a career in one of the areas below, you could be awarded a $5000 BP scholarship towards your undergraduate studies. We’ll also offer you the opportunity to visit one of our offices so you can experience at first-hand what life’s like at BP and gain a different perspective of the industry.

Eligibility criteria

To be considered as a BP scholar, you must meet all of the following criteria:
  • Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full time student pursuing an undergraduate degree majoring in science, technology, engineering, math or business areas of study.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative 3.2 GPA requirement or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • To be selected as a BP scholar, candidates must complete an online application form and virtual interview. All applications will be evaluated based on academic record, essay response, work experience, demonstrated leadership and community/extracurricular involvement.
