GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
Under the direction of the Program
Supervisor of the Parks and Recreation Department, the Part-Time Naturalist is
responsible for the development, execution, and evaluation of educational,
social, and interpretive programs as well as develops and leads restoration
activities at Hawthorne Hill Nature Center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS::
·In coordination with the Recreation Supervisor, develop,
execute, and evaluate all programs at Hawthorne Hill Nature
·Build relationships with community groups including but not
limited to museums, YMCA, YWCA, Boys & Girls Club, and schools.
·Work with community groups to create cooperative
·Open nature center for public
·Maintain and expand the volunteer base for the nature
·Public Relations: including answering telephones, greeting
visitors and answering questions.
·Lead and educate volunteers in restoration
·Responsible for following and implementing nature center
and City policies.
·Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions
·Ability to work well with limited supervision and
·Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university
with major course work in the natural sciences or related field, or three years
of related experience, training or equivalent combination
·Must have knowledge and experience pertaining to wildlife,
natural history, and local flora and fauna.
·Certification in CPR and AED required with 6 months of

·Must have valid Illinois Driver’s

Naturalist has no established hours, but is required to invest the time
necessary to produce exceptional results.
