Summer Intern - City of Waukegan

CITY OF WAUKEGAN, IL 

Job Title: Summer Intern

 

This position will not exceed (29) hours per week.      

 

Department/Division:  

Building Department, Business Licensing, City Clerk, Code Compliance, CDBG, Engineering, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Planning & Zoning, Police, Public Relations, Water Collections

Reports to:   Director or Designee

Supervises: N/A

FLSA Classification:  Non-exempt

Employee Group: N/A

Minimum Education: High school senior. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Other Requirements: Valid Illinois DL


JOB SUMMARY:  

Under the direction of the Director or designee, this position involves working with employees at various levels to maintain a positive work environment while balancing municipal requirements and organizational goals.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following duties are essential for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all–inclusive. To be successful in this position, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned.

  • Performs a wide variety of general tasks to support the assigned department.  
  • Assists with special projects.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with employees, department heads, and external stakeholders to support organizational goals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Excellent customer service skills (oral and written).
  • Vocal communication and normal hearing are required for expressing or exchanging ideas by the spoken word.
