The Educational Research, Evaluation, and Assessment program equips students to design, conduct and evaluate educational research and evaluation studies; select and implement suitable qualitative and quantitative data analytic procedures; design and evaluate assessments and other instruments; and relate empirical findings to educational and social science policies and practices.

Here is some information about our M.S. in Educational Research, Evaluation, and Assessment program:

  • The M.S. in Educational Research, Evaluation, and Assessment program  is designed to equip professionals with broad training in the theory and practice of qualitative and quantitative research, program evaluation, and assessment/measurement.
  • Within our comprehensive and rigorous core curriculum, you can pursue specialized areas of professional interest (e.g., advanced qualitative research design, statistical analysis) through elective courses. The M.S. degree also combines student-centered courses with a variety of engaged learning experiences (e.g., research, internships) to provide a top-quality graduate school experience.
  • Our students are prepared for careers as researchers, evaluators, assessment specialists and data analysts in educational, business, government, community-based and other professional settings.
  • The program is also well-positioned to equip students for research-focused doctoral study in the social sciences.
  • Our program can be completed entirely online or via combination of online and face-to-face coursework. Courses are designed to be flexible to accommodate a variety of schedules with synchronous and asynchronous options.
  • The Department of Educational Technology, Research and Assessment also offers three 18-credit Certificates of Graduate Study (CGS) related to educational research, evaluation, and assessment:

Internship Program!!

Watershed Management Research and Outreach Undergraduate Internship Program

Water resource management is complex and professionals in the field need an understanding of agriculture, natural resources, communication, social sciences and economics, public health, and planning and project management to be successful. That said, currently there is little to no training available at the undergraduate level for individuals interested in watershed outreach and management roles. The Watershed Management Research and Outreach Undergraduate Internship Program helps students from all backgrounds gain valuable experience that will help you pursue future careers in watershed management. Extension faculty at seven different institutions mentor interns over the summer.

Whether you are interested in water resource management, soil health, agriculture, nutrient management, lake and stream monitoring, weather and climate, forestry, or limnology – this internship is for you!

The application deadline for the Summer 2024 Internship Program has been extended through December 8th.

Is Land Use Planning a Barrier to Climate Justice?

Next Friday we’ll be welcoming Dr. Andrew Rumbach from the Urban Institute for a presentation titled Is Land Use Planning a Barrier to Climate Justice? This is a co-sponsored talk between Public Administration and Environmental Studies. The calendar link is here and I’ve attached a flyer. This is important work that exemplifies the intersection of equity, environment, and economy at the heart of sustainability. I know this is a busy time of year, but I hope many of you can find time to attend. Please share widely within your departments and other networks and thank you in advance for that promotional help.

Following the talk later in the afternoon, Dr. Rumbach has also agreed to offer a seminar for early career faculty and students—especially graduate students who might be considering non-university research careers. This will start at 2pm in Altgeld 125.
