EEBC: McHenry County working with wildlife opportunities

The McHenry County Conservation District is hiring for summer positions. This is a great opportunity for those interested in conservation! Below is a testament from a former seasonal employee:

Ryan Morris worked at the McHenry Conservation District Wildlife Resource Center and says,
"They're part of the Blandings turtle restoration project as well as wildlife rehabilitation. ...This was one of the best jobs I've ever had and it was a shame that it was only a seasonal position. However, it may be something that you would want to recommend to future students as it's specifically kept open for people trying to gain skills for a biology career. "

4th Summer Institute in Survey Research Techniques Diversity Fellowship

Below is a wonderful opportunity for our undergrads interest in Survey Research techniques. Useful in both economics and environmental studies.

We are excited to announce that the 2022 Summer Institute for Survey Research Techniques (SISRT) will offer the 4th Annual Summer Institute in Survey Research Techniques Diversity Fellowship.  This opportunity is a two-week program (June 13-24, 2022) geared toward upper-level undergraduates.

This two-week program has been developed by the Institute for Social Research (ISR) to support the University of Michigan’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Initiative.  The goal is to focus our efforts on recruiting upper-level undergraduates from underrepresented groups who are interested in pursuing graduate school in quantitative social science fields. This program will provide a broad overview of the field of survey methodology. We hope the program will encourage interest in graduate studies in the Michigan Program in Survey and Data Science.

The mission of the Summer Institute is to provide rigorous and high quality graduate training in all phases of survey research. The program teaches state-of-the-art practice, theory in the design, implementation, and analysis of surveys.

Please feel free to share this information with anyone that you think might benefit from this opportunity.  Thank you for considering this request. Please feel free to email Patsy Gregory at pagregor@umich.edu with any questions.

Environmental changemaker toolkit - share with your students as part of your courses

See this great environmental changemaker toolkit! It is written by college educated changemakers to help your students become more effective at creating positive change.  https://www.changethechamber.org/how-to-be-an-environmental-changemaker

More Information -

We have created a toolkit on effective changemaking particularly on environmental issues. This is a part of a larger effort to equip our youth with the tools and the confidence to positively impact the climate realities and to support them in their search for related careers. We collected these ideas from students, educators, and long-time changemakers, asking them to share what has been useful to them.

Please share this with your students to encourage them to develop their changemaking skills. We need young people to make a difference and know this document can help. We have advice on topics such as helping them succeed in school, building environmental coalitions, and creating a sustainability career. This document can also be used as a positive example of youth working towards a sustainable future and can inspire students to find where they fit into the climate narrative and help make the world a better place.
